The waters around Shell Island on the bay side are great for swimming and snorkeling. Visitors often see dolphins, fish, sea turtles, and a variety of coastal birds. The island’s trails are great for spotting native terrestrial wildlife like white-tailed deer and marsh rabbits. 5. Is alcohol allowed on Shell Island?

Yes, alcohol is generally allowed on Shell Island except during the month of March, when a county-wide beach alcohol ban is in effect due to Spring Break. Outside of March, you're free to enjoy alcoholic beverages, but glass containers are strictly prohibited. If you're within St. Andrews State Park zones, be extra mindful of posted rules.

6. Are there any facilities and amenities on Shell Island?

Shell Island is completely natural and undeveloped—there are no restrooms, restaurants, or shelters. That’s part of the charm! There are several vendor boats that will cruise up and down Shell Island selling sandwiches, snacks, and ice cream, but it's still a good idea to pack everything you’ll need for the day - food, drinks, beach gear, etc!
